Question
"THIS MAY SEEM LIKE ALOT TO READ BUT PLZ RESPOND"!
Ok...i believe i have 2 Syrian Hamsters. And up til maybe a month ago they havent been fighting. Well like i siad they have been fighting but the one seems to be gettin the upper hand....i neevr thought much of it til the other day when i was cleanin their cage....i noticed Zez had a weird growth type thing under his belly :\....and one of his eyes wouldnt open, and if it did hardly. Well i never thought much of it again unfortunately. Well just the other day i went to check them out and Zez was laying half in and out of his tube leading to his normal bedding spot. I pull him out and held him to look at him. he has red sores under his left front leg, he's losing his hair roughly on the left side of his body, his tail and butt area is wet (possibly "wet-tail"?), and he is just skinny as a toothpick....i really dont want him to die. I seperated him from the other hamster and put him in a shoe box with bedding and food, he hasnt eaten much and within the past 36 hours i havent seen any dropping in the box (constapation?). Whenever i try to touch him or pick him up he just flinches badly like hes defending from all the old fights. Now both his eyes are closed and i havent seen him open for a while. He doesnt drink much if any. And everyonce in a while when he tries to walk around or get up to drink it seems like hes having Seizures. Just shaking back and forth badly! I have no idea what could be wrong with him. I hardly have any money to go to vet cause i know theyll prolly run in the hundreds to help him. I saw in another post some over-the-counter things could help for sum things....can any of the things that are happening to him possibly be treated w/ over-the-counter things. but yea keep in mind he still hardly eats or moves, hes been sleeping kind of like his butt is on the ground then he tries to keep his stomach off the ground and his head kind of on the ground in a corner.
Plz help i have no idea what could be wrong with him.

Answer
Hello,
it sounds like he has the classic case of wettail. You can treat Dritail which is over the counter, but there's no guarantee that it will cure him. Dritail only works 50% of the time and generally when you catch it in the first stages. You also need to keep him hydrated so give him water or gatorade through a dropper.
