male dwarf hamster rubbing head bald

Question
I have four dwarf hamsters. 2 boys, and 2 girls. They're separated. All four of them chew on the wire cages they live in. Recently i noticed that one of boys has rubbed a straight line of hair across his head completely off. I know its from him chewing on the cage wires but how do i get them to stop? They have wooden chewing blocks, but they dont chew those. They have food available all the time, and water. Im worried he's going to make his little head bleed.

Answer
Hi Morgan,

Cages with bars are not always the best cages for dwarf hamsters.

It is best to get a cage with no bars for them, either a plastic or glass tank type cage is best.

To stop them chewing the bars you could try putting them moret oys to play with or more tunnels and it might be a good idea to put in a hard dog biscuit for them to chew on too.

Kind Regards,

Tammy
