Question
Hi there!

so i just got Comet (my ferret) about a month ago. She was a baby when i got her, not a tiny baby, but young enough that she was still eating wetted down food. I continue to wet down her food for her, as she find it hard to eat it any other way. My question to you is, how long to I have to keep wetting down her food before shes old enough to eat it right out of the package???

Answer
Hi Tara,

A ferret can usually start eating kibble at about 9 or 10 weeks. If Comet likes to eat it moistened, though, it isn't really a bad thing. Eating dry kibble 100% of the time isn't necessarily easy on their teeth, so moistened, softer food is a good alternative to wet food, which can lead to tooth decay.

To answer your question, though, Comet should be able to eat dry kibble at 10 weeks. Whether she wants to or not is a different story, know how finicky ferrets can be :).

Also, I like to give this chart to new ferret parents that write in so they know how their food they feed their ferret ranks compared to the other foods on the market. I personally suggest not feeding a food ranked below a 9.

I hope this information helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
