behavior change in ferret

Question
We have a male ferret who will be 2 years old in July.  He has always been relatively calm when in his cage, more rambunctious when out of his cage playing.  We recently moved and since then he has been going to extreme measures to get out of his cage.  He has even chewed through some of the wire on his cage, we are finding him digging at the bottom of his cage until we open the cage and let him out.  When we let him out of his cage he usually finds a place and sleeps - he rarely sleeps in his cage anymore, which has always been his safe haven until now.  Do you have any suggestions on what we can do to correct this issue and make him feel safe and sleeping in his cage once again?

Answer
I doubt it is a safety issue, it could be boredom or he is interested in the new surroundings.  You didn't say how often and for how long he gets out of his cage to play on a daily basis, so maybe he would like more time out to play or you can look up some ferret enrichment ideas online for him.
