Answer
I don't mean to be difficult here, but you are asking a number of questins that all potentiall have a really long answer.  At 5 months he is still young and biting is common in kits.  He may grow out of it, but punishment of any kind usually makes it worse.  Pay attention to why he is biting and see if there is something setting him off.  Is he getting enough playtime?  Are you handling him for too long?  Remember he is a kit and has lots of energy.  Litter box use or misuse is also common in ferrets.  I am not sure what your last question is, but I suggest you buy or borrow from a library the book "Ferrets for Dummies" by Kim Schilling.  As a new ferret owner, it is a great resource and will not only help you with these questions, but will also give you great information on diet, medical issues, enrichment, and general care.  Ferrets can be challenging pets because they are energetic and smart.  They require a lot of one-on-one time and ferret specific play.  Young ferrets are not always the best around little kids since they do tend to be mouthy.  So, check out the suggested book and maybe some other ferret specific websites (Ferretcentral and the AFA website) for the general information you are looking for.
