Question
Can you use basic cat litter in a farret's litter box? I just was wondering because I dont know what to use in their litter box!
Thank You!

Answer
Hello Betty!  This a great question, since you should not use normal clay cat litter in your ferret's box.  Clay litter contains plenty of dust, which can cause upper respiratory problems.  Also, the use of wood chips is not recommended since some release toxic chemicals that can harm your pet.  Materials such as carefresh are not a good idea.  These could pose as a potential intestinal obstruction!

So with this long list of "Don'ts" what can you use?

The number one litter I recommend is yesterday's news.  This litter is made from recycled newspaper which is processed and placed in pellet form.  It is readily available in almost all pet stores, and there is virtually no dust or debris.  It is certainly more pricey than clay based litters, but the superior quality and no health threat make it the better choice.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!  Good luck with the potty training!
