Biting a Scab - Ouch

Question
I have two ferrets, recently one ferret (odin) bit the other one (loki) too hard while fighting and cut him. Now odin keeps taking the scab of loki back while play fighting. How can i help the cut heal because when i try to split them up they cry till they are put back together. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Arwen:

Sounds like a couple of 100%-boys you have there! :-) I think it might be a good idea to put some "Bitter Apple Paste" or "Bitter Apple Gel" on the scab when it's playtime. That should keep him away from there. It tastes bitter, so he will maybe touch it once or twice with his mouth, then will leave it alone  once he gets a taste of the bitter apple.

It's pretty unusual for ferrets to play so hard that they actually break the skin. You may want to watch that scab closely for infection also. If it's in a place where you can possibly put an antibiotic ointment and an gauze bandage on it, that would probably be a good idea - but I don't think most ferrets would go for that.

If it doesn't heal up within a week or so, it might be a good idea to take him to the vet and see if there is maybe something the vet can do to cover it so the other ferret just can't get to it and give it time to heal.

It sounds like fun at your house :-)
