Question

jack and sox
Hi,

I just recently (two days ago) got a new ferret named Jack. He is 10 weeks old and adorable. Only problem is, he won't eat his food. It is the same food he has been on since he was born. I am finding that he will only eat a treat or two, and he will eat this vitamin supplement that I put on my finger. If I put the supplement on his food he will eat a little food, but mostly just licks the supplement off and leaves the food!

I want to change Jack's food, b/c he is on Marshall Farms food and I know there are better foods out there. But, I am worried to try and change it, because he is not even eating what he has now.

More information: He is otherwise behaving normally. He drinks a lot of water, plays with our cats and poops and pees regularly. I took his temperature and it was 102.3 (normal).

Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. I have a vet appt. early next week, but am thinking maybe I should take him in sooner???

Thanks,

Julie

Answer
I would go ahead and try a new food, often a better quality food it "tastier" and he may chose to eat it easily.  I would also soften his food - while he is a little old for that, if he is used to it, then it may help.  Totally Ferret makes a great baby food so I would use that.  If you need to soften it, just add a little water.
