Ferrets and oil paint =(

Question
Hi, I have two ferrets who bit into a small tube of oil paint in my roommate's shopping bag today. It's been about three hours now since they did it, and while their fur was stained pretty badly from smearing it around in the plastic bag, we found no traces of the color [bright green] in their mouths or on their tongues.

Right now they seem to be behaving normally, and they're both eating and drinking. My question is what signs should I look for to indicate that something is possibly wrong, and how long will it be until I know for sure that they are all right?

As for the stains, we washed them very thoroughly, alternating ferret shampoo and olive oil. The stains are very slight and dull now, but still noticeable. Could this possibly be permanent? Or do their coats completely renew every year or so?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Answer
I really don't know.  Cadmium can be toxic but I am not sure about the rest.  You could try poison control although they aren't always great with ferrets.  You could also call your ferret vet and ask them.  Oil is pretty permanent but should fade in time and while it may take more than a year to regrow, that too should happen.
