ferret pregnancys

hi my gill has just giving birth  to her first liter thing are all well  im just wondering when it s posible to handle the young as i wontto find out how many she has had but on the same hand i dont wont to stress her out or the young when would u recomend the length of time before handling? my gill has started to back away from me now when i try to handle her is this natural behavour?

Your best bet would be to find someone locally that has experience with this.  I have only had 1 give birth so my experience is limited.  We were able to handle the babies in a few days and she was fine, but I would imagine it depends on the ferret, the personality, and your pre-birth relationship.
