Question
The ferret i am talking about is one year old. She has these little poops and i am worried. she has always had little poops but when i compare them to skippy's poops(other ferret) they are extremely tiny. I also would like to know if you can get vetasyl and uncle jims duck soup at local pet stores

Answer
Hi Madeline:

Yes, thin poops would definitely indicate at least partial blockage from hairballs or other items in the intestines. This can quickly become life and death, so you MUST act quickly to save these ferrets lives.

I don't know what stores you have locally, but you can call and see if they have vetasyl and Uncle Jim's. If you order it, it will be there within a week, but that may not be fast enough for you.

You may want to try the alterate of 1/2 tsp metamucil in some very watered down Hill's A/D feline canned prescription diet (get it at any vet office). Make the A/D into a thin soupy gravy, warm in microwave, then add a little unflavored metamucil and feed to the ferret from your finger.  You will have to be persistent and get enough down to move whatever is blocking along or you will quickly find yourself in an emergency situation if poops are already skinny.

Please don't delay in treatment.  Give as much of the metamucil/warm A/D soup mixture several times a day for at least 3 to 5 days.....watch poops to see what comes out and watch for FAT poops after the blockage material passes - that's how you will know when to stop.  It won't hurt even to feed it daily for a week if you have to - just get the blockage OUT....this could quickly turn life and death, please don't wait.

You can order Vetasyl and Uncle Jim's for next time - it's the easier, ideal way and usually better accepted because it's not as fibery as the metamucil...but both will accomplish the same goal in the end.

Sincerely,

Jacquie Rodgers
