Question
We have 4 ferrets, one of them "mitzy", we adopted from petco who the previous owners fed her bird food and hamster food for about 1 year, so she was pretty sick when we got her. We feed her 4 mixed types of ferret food and a bag of cat food for volume. We know that they have strict diets. So we where wondering, Mitzy loves carrots, so given her backround how much would you recomend she can have a day if any?

Answer
Hello, and thanks for your question. I think it is wonderful that you have adopted Mitzy and are giving her a better diet and a chance at life! But even given her previous diet, it would be best if you did not give her ANY vegetables or fruits, simply because a ferret's digestive tract cannot handle those things. Ferrets are literally strict carnivores. Even though she loves carrots, it doesn't mean she should have them...ferrets also love chocolate, and that of course is a big no-no. So she may have to be a little sad and deprived, but ultimately, you not feeding her carrots is a way to show her that you love her. Try giving her different ferret specific treats and see if she likes any of them. The reward will be her being the happiest and healthiest she can be.
Hope I've helped, good luck!
