Question
Hi my ferrets are all healthy two are one year the other is three months. I called the Gunberral vet clinic and they said that a distemper shot costs 60 dollars with a checkup and that needs to be updated every five years and that a rabies shot costs thirty and needs to updated every year. Is that a good price or can i get the shots cheaper?

Answer
Hello again Madeline,

That is a pretty reasonable price. Feel free to shop around, but that seems like a fair price and you'll probably find that the other vets in you area are around the same price.

In case you haven't found a vet, here is an article about the questions to ask. I suggest you take a good look at it because it is important to interview your potential ferret vet. Sometimes, you might find a dog and cat vet that is "pretending" to be a ferret vet. It is important to find a ferret knowledgeable veterinarian.

I have read that there is research that states distemper vaccine might not have to be updated yearly, but the generally accepted information as of right now, is that distemper vaccines need to be updated yearly. I would stick with that, because distemper is 100% fatal to ferrets and you don't want to take that chance with your ferrets. Because of this, I would suggest you keep shopping around in your area for a vet. Please let me know if you need help with this and I will help you.

I hope this helps and if you need anything else, please don't hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Emilee Andrews
