why is my ferret is starving itself?

Question
For the past week I have noticed that my ferret is doing a lot of sleeping and not eating normallly.  He won't even seem to drink water.  He is losing weight and he is losing his fur.  He is not going bald but his fur is thinning out.
He is also throwing up and has some sores on him..little scabs but I was thinking that that is just from scratching because of dry skin.

I was wondering if there is anything that I could do at home to get him to start eating again.  Some type of food that he will likely eat.  What are your suggestions?

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Answer
It sounds like your ferret has adrenal disease or insulinoma.  Baby food, chicken, is good to feed warmed up.  Add pedialyte to it as ferrets dehydrate very quickly and can die from dehydration.  You can put pedialyte in water too.  Get a syringe, they sell them at some pet stores that carry horse supplies and help him to drink and eat.  Also, Nuti-cal or ferrit vite is good for undernourished ferrets and they usually love it.

Throwing up can be caused by several things.  You can give ferrets pepto bismal for upset stomachs as it coats their stomach,  They don't like it but it helps.  It will make their stools dark.

Hope I have been of some help to you.
