Question
my ferret just died Friday and i was wondering what from.. i too her to the vet 2x within two weeks of her death asking what was wrong.. her stomach area was huge she wasn't as active and didn't overeat. the vet didn't find anything and only did and X-ray. i found her Friday dead with blood by her butt and her lips and nose tips were blackish from lack of oxygen (probably after death). i also wanted to know if you know of any awesome ferret vets on long island as i still have 3 remaining ferrets and WILL NOT be bringing them to that office again!

Answer
Mel,
I am so sorry you lost your little ferret.  How old was she.  Bleeding can be caused by ulcers.  There are so many things.  Was she pooping?  If she had a blockage they can bleed from the butt and her stomach may be huge and that doesn't always show on an XRay as they can block anywhere.
As far as vets go, I wish I could help you but I live in Arizona.  Try and find one that specializes in exotics pets.  It's so hard to find a good one for ferrets.  If you ever need me I'd be glad to help you in anyway I can.  I am a vet tech and I have a lot of ferrets.  Adrenal Disease can also cause a huge stomach, but your vet should have definitely been able to diagnose that. You can feel a large Adrenal Gland.
I hope this helps somewhat.

Mary
Again, I'm really sorry about your ferrets death.  It hurts so much to lose them.
