ferret curling up

You were kind enough to help me before, I hope you can again. Bryan is an unneutered male but I have no idea of his age as I found him in my garden. Recently he has started curling up into a tight ball like a hedgehog while he is awake and playing with his little friend. He stays like this for about three minutes not even uncurling when he is picked up and cuddled. After a while he unrolls and carries on playing as if nothing had happened. I have always fed him on dried ferret food with occasional fresh chicken. Should I get him checked although he seems fine in every other respect? He does sleep a lot more than my baby but the baby does wear him out! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this

My rule of thumb is any unusual behavior means something and is often worth checking out.  I am going out on a limb and guess that when you say he curls up and plays with his little friend that you mean his penis and/or the surrounding area?  If so, have the vet check his genital area for anything from an infection on the skin to a urinary tract infection.  I am not a vet and have little experience with intact males and the possible medical issues but I assume they can have similar urinary and penal problems to any other male species.  Let me know through since this is a new area for me.
