i have a male ferret. I've had him for two years. he is so loving but at times i feel he get's bored of us and needed's a mate. please help me with a few questions. do i get another male or a female.i don't want to mate them.i just want him to have a companion.what do i look for and what is best a male or female?

Hello and thanks for your question. Well, ferrets are extremely social creatures, more often than not they get along with just about anybody! I think getting him a friend is a good idea, he will have lots of fun and great companionship. As to what gender to get, that really is up to you. The female or male that you get would of course have to be spayed/neutered, but they usually are, so that shouldn't be a problem. Ferrets generally get along well with other ferrets, but it's a good idea to bring your guy with you when you pick his friend out, and see who he clicks best with. Guy or girl, it doesn't matter, to him it would a ferret friend! Something he will definitely be excited about. The only real difference between the genders is mainly size (females are a little smaller); personality is on a ferret to ferret basis. So whatever you feel like getting is fine, or let him decide.
