biting his sleeping siblings!!

Question
i have 6 ferrets, all of which have been caged together for quite awhile now, at least 8 months. Tyler, my oldest boy, has been biting the neck and face of others while they are asleep, he is usually totally friendly, but the biting hasn't stopped for a few days now. i have it blocked off so he has one half of the cage, and the others have theirs. i don't want to have to keep them separated, is there any other options? they squeal when he bites them and i have to break it up, is this normal behavior? they are all about the same age, a few months apart at most.

PLEASE HELP!

Answer
The only thing I can think of is that your ferrets may be stressed since there are so many in one cage. Even if the cage is large, it might be better to get a 2nd cage to house half of them in overnight while they sleep. Other than that he may be ill and thus be more agressive. It could be anything from the common cold to something more serious like Adrenal Disease. If his behavior doesn't change a visit to the vet for a check up would be your best bet to rule out illness as a cause for his behavior.
