my new ferret

Question
I noticed that when I went to the pet store today and saw the ferrets there, their stools were a dark brown and pretty solid.  My ferret that I aquired a week ago has kind of a runny stool and its light brown.  He has done pretty good with going in the litter at the bottom of his cage, but for a couple of days now I have come home from work and found that he has went on the platforms in his cage along with urinating also.  He also has it seems sprayed his stool onto the wall behind his cage twice now.  Does this seem like a normal thing or do you think its a behavioral problem.  The owners before me let him run the house and go to the bathroom anywhere he wanted so its been hard anyway to litter train him.  Please help me or I am afraid I will have to give him up and I don't want to do that, thank you

Answer
If his stool is runny it may mean a vet visit or at least looking into the food he is eating.  A good quality food, like Natural Gold or Totally ferrets Venison, should produce a better stool - one that isn't so runny.  It will take time to get him used to a litter box if he hasn't used one and it manes placing a number of them in his cage where he is currently going to encourage him to use them.  He may never be good at it.  I also know when mine are in a cage I often see a little run down of urine or feces especially if they get to close to the back of the litter box!
