Question
Hi.. We just got our first Ferret for my daughters 16th birthday.. I have very quickly fallen in love with him.. My daughter cleans his cage weekly and litter tray twice a week..We keep finding what looks like maggots in his litter tray.. could this be worms??? If not how would there be maggots in his tray??

Thanks Criss

Answer
Hi Criss:

It's not common for ferrets to have worms, but not unheard of. It could also be something you've brought in with the litter - did you check thru the litter that's still in the bag?

I would take a "worm" or two to the vet and ask them to identify it and IF it's a worm to give you some SAFE treatment for a ferret. Not all worm treatments are safe for ferrets so be sure to get something from the vet specifically for tiny kittens or ferrets.

Hope that helps.

Sincerely,
