Question
hello! i've had my baby ferret, little jerry, for a week now and im worried he poops too much. on average he goes about 7 or 8 times a day. it's healthy looking poop, but everytime i turn around he's going. i was lucky enough to get him litter trained within a few days and i clean his litter box out every few hours. i use yesterdays news ferret litter and carefresh bedding. also, he's chewed through 2 hammocks and im not sure why... he gets around 2 hours of exercise everyday and i feed him marshall brand ferret food. any suggestions?? thanks in advance...

Answer
Funny thing about ferrets, they eat, poop, sleep, play.  So, the amount your ferret is pooping is just fine.  They have short digestive tracts which means a lot of poop!  I generally recommend towels etc for bedding and old shirts work really well for this instead of Carefresh.  That way you do laundry instead of tossing out bedding.  I would watch the chewing on fabric through, which it is common in young ferrets we want to make sure it doesn't become a habit.  Maybe use old jeans for a while until he stops chewing since you don't want a blockage.  Finally, I would recommend Totally Ferret venison or Natural Gold Ferret foods instead of Marshall.
