Answer
Hi Alley:

Ferrets reach their full adult size around seven months of age.  Differences in sizes can be for many reasons - the most common one is that females are usually around 2 to 3 lbs and the males are usually 3 to 4 lbs full grown.

You can tell a female from a male like this: Hold ferret up and look where "bellybutton" should be.  If you can see what looks like a bellybutton - it's a boy!  That is his penis.  If there is no bellybutton looking apendage, it's a girl.

Also, girls pee almost directly over where they poop; little boys pee about three inches in front of where they poop (how I know which of my ferrets didn't make it to the litterbox; one is male and one female :-)

You can get great general ferret information here online at:

http://www.ferretcentral.org

and click on any of the categories and you will see MANY topics you can read up on. Also all kinds of fun things on the website also!

The other thing I would recommend is a great book that EVERY ferret owner should have that's called FERRETS FOR DUMMIES by Kim Schilling. You can get it really reasonable on eBay or http://www.half.com  .

Hope that helps and hopefully gave you some places for general ferret information you may find interesting. Please feel welcome to come back anytime!  Thanks for visiting AllExperts.com!!
