Question
me and my fiance got a baby ferret about a month ago and just yesterday, we found maggots in his food...we took him out and cleaned the cage, but i noticed earler that he was laying by his food, mouth open, and dead....could he have injested the maggots and it killed him??

Answer
I am not a vet, but maggots are just baby flies so I doubt that could have killed him.  On the other hand, maggots in his food don't develop overnight.  Ferrets living spaces need to be cleaned out daily - food should not be left to rot and develop flies, litter boxes need emptied.  It seems like he was left alone long enough for the food to rot.  It seems possible that you missed some other signs of illness, maybe due to a parasite or something.
