Question
hi i have had my ferret for a few days now and today me and my sister were playing with her on my bed and lanie lunged and then jumped on my sister.

i was just wondering if this was normal behavior or if she just didn't like my sister?

Answer
Hi Jeffrey & Lanie:

Unless the ferret actually landed on your sister with her mouth open and proceeded to violently bite her, I would say she was absolutely playing.

Ferrets are  normally very silly and unpredictable - which is another reason we must supervise them when playing. It is not unusual for them to climb up on things and fall, causing serious injury.

My recommendation would be to make sure your little 'grasshopper' is kept on lower surfaces. Some ferrets are more likely than others to be stunt ferrets - it sounds like you have an ornery one!  Enjoy your little ball of energy.

You may want to consider getting the book FERRETS FOR DUMMIES by Kim Schilling OR/ read more about ferrets at http://www.ferretcentral.org .

All ferret owners need to know the signs and symptoms to watch for to catch illness and/or injuries early; safe games to play, cage ideas and accessories, etc.

Enjoy your little sweetheart - they are only 'kits' (babies) for such a short while. At 7 months, ferrets are full-grown, but they usually stay silly well into the second or third year if they have good food, healthy snacks, lots of playtime and love and a safe environment to live and play in.

Sincerely,

Jacquie Rodgers
