Question
i recently acquired 2 ferrets from people feeding them just cheap cat food. I had ferrets previously and when they pooped there was usually very small amounts of urine. These two i have now always have watery poop and urinate huge amounts compared to the other ones. i feed them ferret food now and wonder if the cheap cat food could have affected their bladders?

Answer
Dear Nancy,

You mentioned that you acquired the ferrets recently.  The problem could be due to the change of food.  When changing foods, it's best to do it gradually, adding the new food to the old food a little at a time until the change is complete.  However, since these little guys can become dehydrated very quickly, the watery poop can be a problem.  Make sure plenty of fresh water is available.

I strongly suggest you check with your vet to make sure your little fuzzies are not in danger.  It's much better to be safe than sorry.  These little guys can go down hill rapidly.

I hope I've been of some help.  I'm sincerely concerned for you and your fuzzies and hope all goes well.

Warm Regards,
Janet
