finger dragging

Question
Hi,
I have two ferrets, a neutered hob and jill. The jill has a strange habit of biting (only gently) my finger and dragging it, sometimes for metres and metres before 'hiding' it somewhere. She'll even climb the sofa to come and find my fingers It doesn't bother me, but I was just wondering what it meant!

She refuses to do it to my brother and will only very rarely do it to my mum. She'll also sometimes hiss at me (especially if I stop her from doing it).

Do you know what it means? Is it just a game or is it something else?

Thanks

Answer
It is perfectly normal for ferrets to develop fetishes about certain objects, and insist on hiding these objects. Although it is a little strange (and unique!) that she is attached to your finger, it shouldn't be anything to be worried about. The only thing that concerns me is the fact that she is acting a little possessive of your finger...hissing is a sign that she considers it hers. You may have to occasionally remind her who wears the pants in your house, by gently scruffing her (holding her up by the loose skin on the back of her neck) until she yawns, signaling submission to you. If she continues to hiss, tell her NO and maybe give her a time out in her cage. However, unless this whole thing is becoming a big problem, you don't need to worry about it too much or try to reprimand her too much.
