Ferrett throwing up

Question
A week ago my 7 year old ferret started throwing up a bile like substance within 5 minutes of eating.  I took him to the vet who did blood work and said other than a little anemia he was ok.  She put him on antibiotics yesterday and he didn't throw up yesterday.  Today after eating he threw up a lot of flem/bile like substance.  I've given him pedialyte and softened his food to make it easier to chew.  Any other suggestions?

Answer
Hi Dawn,

It sounds like your little guy may be dehydrated. Dehydration causes nausea and until his hydration status get fixed he will probably still feel pretty punky. Keep moistening his food and force feed him if you have to. If he is still vomiting through tomorrow I would ask the vet about sub-q fluid administration. That's usually that first thing I do when I find they are sick and vomiting.

I'll bet that will fix the problem! Keep a close eye on him since even young ferrets go downhill quickly.

Good luck.

Sincerely,
Adrienne Mortimer
