QuestionI just recently got my first ferret about a week ago. He's three months old and up until recently (today), he has either been A) with me or B) running around in my (ferret-proof)room with me in it. We finally purchased a cage today in order to potty train him and I left him in it for about an hour while I went to class. When I got back, he was at the cage bars with his mouth partly open, and when I let him out into the room he was aggressively biting his toys to the point of ripping them (which he's never done before). When I went to take them away from him he hissed (but did not bite). I "scruffed" him and said "NO" and talked to him a bit to see if he would calm down, and ended up taking away his toys. He looked around the room a bit then promptly went to sleep. I am confused at his unusual behavior and don't want this to happen next time I leave him in his cage alone. Whats up?
AnswerHissing is normal and the behavior you saw probably came from his first time being "cooped"up in the new cage. Just expect a little craziness when you let him out. It is also OK if he rips his toys as long as they are ferret safe and he doesn't injest the pieces.
