Question
Hi, I've had my ferret for a good month or so now. She does eat her regular food in her bowl, but I have one question... She LOVES ice cream. She goes crazy when she see's me eating it. I try not to let her eat too much of it because I've read that it dairy products aren't good for them. My question is, is ice cream safe for her every once in awhile? What can happen if she does eat it?

Thank you very much,
Kaycie.

Answer
Hello Kaycie,

I apologize for the delay in answering. To answer you question, ice cream isn't good for ferrets because the lactose can cause insulinoma, which is like diabetes. They really have no way to process sugars like that, so it is best to keep them VERY limited or out of their diet all together. A lick of it once in a GREAT, GREAT while won't hurt her, but I would rather be safe than sorry. I hope this helps and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Emilee Andrews
