Question
QUESTION: I think that my pom may be pregnant but am not sure if she is. She is nine mos. old and she has shown many of the signs. Her nipples are getting bigger everyday, she is more affectionate, she is aggresive to our other pom, her stomach feels harder than normal, and her appetite has risen. Do you think she is pregnant?

         Thanks a lot,
         Erica

ANSWER: Hi Erica. It's really hard to say for sure 100% that she is pregnant. Dog's also experience a false pregnancy, which mimics a real pregnancy. Really young puppies, like your dog, may be more prone to false pregnancies than older dogs. At 9 months of age, I hope she's not pregnant. You can have an x-ray done at 50 days to know for sure. If she is pregnant, then you need to watch her very closely, and be prepared for any whelping emergencies, including a c-section. Again, really young dogs may run into trouble whelping as their body isn't ready to give birth. Good luck, and if I can help with anything else, let me know!

QUESTION: Well if she is pregnant, what would I need, and what would I need to do for the birth of the puppies. And would I have to buy puppy formula or not?

         Thanks a whole lot

Answer
Hi Erica. I'm going to include a web site that has a list of things you will need. You don't need everything on the list, but it will give you an idea. I am also going to include a site that has very detailed information on what to expect during whelping, and includes pictures. Look at both sites, and if you have any questions, let me know. I'd like to help. As for the puppy formula, it doesn't hurt to have some on hand just in case.
