dog hunting in backyard

Question
My wife and I rescued our third dog and now after his heartworm treatment he is obviously feeling better because he has killed two birds and a squirrel in the backyard in the last week.  My wife is getting rather bothered at having to dispatch partially dead critters at all times of the day.

He is probably lab/golden mix and extremely friendly if not rather sensitive to scolding.

Is there any way to rid him gently of this hunting instinct?  Maybe more playful distractions...?...there are two other dogs to play with.

I'm at a loss.

Thanks!

Answer
wow. don't be so sensitive for that. my dog killed a cat, when i didn't see. It's nothing so bad, how you think. but if you want that your dog didn't do that, just watch him for a while, and when he tries to attack something, say NO in a angry way and do something, to make your dog to leave that prey. also, when you watch him, try not to turn his attention, 4examle, sit and drink a cofee, talk with someone and else. i hope it helps.
