Question
will a dalmatian shed

Answer
Hi Erik,

Yes. Dalmatians shed lots of hair year-round Their stiff short hairs cling to most surfaces and weave their way into fabrics making them difficult to remove. Shedding can be reduced by giving the dog a brisk five minute daily brushing, and by feeding them a high quality diet.

If you're looking for a breed that does not shed (or sheds very little) don't be fooled into thinking that short hair automatically means less shedding. Short-haired dogs shed just as much, sometimes more than long-haired breeds. It's the coat type, not the coat length that makes the difference.

If you're concerned about allergies, there are no truly allergen-free dog breed. Any and every dog will cause some degree of allergies in certain people prone to allergies and asthma. However, there is hope. Single-coated dog breeds have been touted as "hypo-allergenic" for years now, and although they do still have dander, the amount is significantly less than dog with a double coat.

Poodles, Terrier breeds, and Schnauzers are some single-coated types of dogs often recommended to allergy sufferers, they hardly shed at all.

I hope I've been a help.

Best of luck,
Patti
