high alk phos levels

Question
My 9 year old shar-pei went into the vet to have a cyst on his foot removed and before surgery they did some labs to make sure he was ok- they found that his alk phos level is 1065 and his ALT is in the 200's - not good- so they did do a bile something test and we will have the results in a couple of days and they put hime antibiotics and special food. Why did they put him on the special food?  What if it's not Cushing's Disease- I'm just trying to look up and learn/ prepare myself for what might happen to my baby- I'm not ready for bad news.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Jen;
I would imagine they put him on a special diet to lower the minerals etc that would interfere with his condition and his treatments.
I on't know what those levels mean and what is high and what is low.
I wouldn't try to second guess a Veterinarian.
It sounds to me like you have a Very good Vet that is leaving no stones unturned to take are of him.
I kjnow waiting for these tests results is hard, but we just have to wait sometimes, and worry. We can't help worrying.
Don't try to prepare yourself for bad news until you get it.
At 9 years old, he is no spring chicken, and they have their ups and downs like we all do as we age.
Try not to worry too much. It sounds like he is in good hands.
