Pug Aggressiveness

Question
We have a 2 year old un-neutered male pug.  Every time we leave, he attacks our leg and sometimes draws blood.  We also have a 1 year old un-neutered female pug.  She will climb behind him and wrap her paws around him to prevent him from attacking us.

In addition, almost daily one will stare the other one down and start attacking each other.  In order to get them to stop, we spray them with water.

What causes these behaviors and how should we handle it ?  We want to breed them and that is why we have not neutered them.

Thank you very much for your help.

Answer
Hi Kim;
What you have is two spoiled dogs that need training.
I don't allow aggressiveness!!!
They get put in time-out until they learn better.
They both need a good obedience course.
The biting your ankles should never have been allowed.
Each is trying to attain the position of alpha dog, and from the attacking you, it sounds like they want to rule the whole house.
They have been allowed to get away with too much for too long.
I would suggest you get a group class where you handle the dog and learn how to get the behavior out of them, and that will also teach them who is boss.
Petsmrt and Petco stores have weekend obedience group classes, and Man's Best Friend also has group classes.

They have to know that you are your husband are the alpha abd beta( parents/boss).
I don't hit my dogs, and don't allow anybody else to.
I put them in time-out. They hate that, and I am sure they would rather have a beating than be put there.
Time out at our houes is a half hour or so in the hall bathroom, the smallest room in the house.
There is nothing to do but lie on the bath mat and contemplate their sin that put them there.
All i have to dio when ione of them threatens the others is ask, " do you want to go to time-out?" and they straighten right up.
Pick him up, look him in the eyes and chew his little butt out good, and put him in time out.
I don't like spraying with water.
That is just irritating to them, or maybe it isn't. Two of my dogs would think that was great fun to get sprayed.
Putting them in confinement and chewing them out is a better solution.
They shoul know whay they are being put up.
If they copme out of time-out and atart up again, back they go, this time for a little longer.
