maggots in pup

Question
hi! This is about a three month old stray pup. Some insensitive creep poured boiling water on him. His back was burnt quite badly and the hair had come off the affected region. But with some emergency first aid and a little bit of care he was getting better. This happened three days ago. However, yesterday I noticed a small hole in the wound. I doubted maggot infestation so i put a disinfectant cream instead of the burn cream that I had been applying. This morning the dog was writhing in pain and i could quite plainly see the maggots. Also the hole had grown. Unable to see him suffering we took him to the vet who cleaned the wound out. What kind of precautions can we take so that it does not get infected again. Can the maggots come back and will the wound heal completely
We live in India where there are a large number of strays. Given the adorable nature of the dogs I do tend to get attached to them. But since I live in a small apartment and have 2 big dogs already its impossible to bring it home. How can protect it from the maggots considering that he has to stay outside.

Answer
Hi, the best thing to do is clean the wound daily and then apply the cream.  You can also get fly ointment that goes on wounds to help keep the flys away.  It is called flys off and you can purchase it online at practically any pet store or feed supply.  It also comes in a spray.  Maggots come from flys, so you have to primarily keep them off the wound to keep the maggots out of it.  Hope this helps,
