poodle grooming problem

Question
I own an 8 month old male chocolate mini poodle. I have him since he is 3 months old and recently had him groomed for the 3rd time. The groomer shaved his anal area as well as 2-3 inches from the base of his tail to the ball at the end. The anal area is not irritated or red, however, my puppy has been behaving strange since the grooming. His tail points to the side, he constantly scoots around on the floor on his bottom, his body twitches and he is very uncomfortable. He is always trying to lick his tail as well. I called the groomer and she said she may have cut him too close and suggested I use an ointment with bacitracin. I tried using A&D Ointment and Vaseline, but neither helped. He was "fixed" about three weeks ago, and his anal glands are fine.  His appetite has declined and he is not following any of his usual routines (such as greeting me at the door or playing with his toys). The only time he appears ok is when he is lying on his back with his feet in the air. When I take him outside, I can distract him for a while, but once inside, he retreats again.

Answer
Hello Myra,  I am sorry for your pet's unease.  It does sound like she shaved him to close around his rear.  The suggestions she gave you can work, however if they do not, then it is off to the vet for a cortisone shot.  Sorry, but without it he may not leave it alone and the more he scoots the longer it will stay irritated.  I would also give the groomer the vet bill and she will probably reimburse you with a free grooming.  Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
