Question
Hi, my husband and I live in an apartment with a fenced in backyard. We have adopted a lab/rott mix and he has learned everything very quick except not to dig up the cable cords in our yard and the water pipes. That is all he digs up, I am about to get him a job with miss utility if he doesn't stop. I was wondering if there would be a reason he would dig up those things, not only at our house but also at family and friends. How does he know where they are? How do I get him to stop? thanks, Becky

Answer
Hi Becky;
I have never heard of such a thing, and I thought I had pretty well seen all the quirky things animas can do.
I can only guess, so here goes.
Could it be that his hearing is much better than other dogs?
I mean REALLY Sharp!
I can see he may be able to hear water running in the pipes, and he is chasing that funny sound.
Could the cable cords have a very high p[itched whine that he can hear.
As to how to get him to astop?
I can't even train my dog, Rowdy to stop digging just so he can show me how talented he is. LOl
Ask your Veterinarian if it could be the sounds in those things.
Call the cable company and speak to a technician that knows all about those cables, and ask if there is a high potched whine.
AND,,,,,,, if you ever do find the answer to why he is doing this, PLEASE come back and tell me.
this one has me scratching my head.
