8 year old female dog behaving strangely

Question
Hello. I hope you can give me some more insight on my pets erratic behavior. My husband has an 8 year old bichon frise who is very shy and well behaved. I noticed that during my pregnancy she became mopey and do things that seemed like she was crying out for more attention like urinating on my older daughter's bed, my bed and the couches. She realized she shouldn't of had accidents because she hangs her head and runs off but she continues to do it almost on a daily basis. Sometimes I will walk her and spend 20 minutes outdoors and once she is in the building lobby she will pee or poop. She sleeps all day and paces around all night. She has also taken over my bed and follows my husband everywhere, growling at me whenever I approach. After the birth of my youngest daughter three months ago she has started snapping at me whenever I approach her. Last week she snapped at my hand and drew blood. Another problem is that my husband thinks I must of done something to her and insists I am making it all up. I love the dog but I am starting to get nervous whenever I have to get close. Is this a passing phase or do I need to take my dog to a vet? Should my husband discipline the dog after her accidents and after she snaps at me? Thanks for your time and have a happy holiday!!

Answer
Hi there. we tell people all the time to do a test when they are pregnant to know how the dog will be with a new child. Unfortunately, i can not help you from here and there is only one way to fix this. You need to hire a behaviorist with a good reputation to help you or there may be a bite of the child down the road. Your local vet may be able to recommend someone.  By the way, do not dicipline the dog, but you may try some one on one time when the baby is asleep. Good luck to you
