Question
Hello.  I'm hoping you can help. I adopted an 8 month old pug a couple years ago and have been in and out of the vet ever since. My little girl, Chloe, is very lethargic, thin-18 pounds,  drinks ALOT of water and urinates alot.  We used to feed her Iams, and now we're feeding her Beneful (1/2 cup am, 1/2 cup pm).

We have tested her urine, blood, and fecal matter several times.  The vet says something new every time, however, recently they said her thyroid level is low- she's on T-4 meds, has crystals in her urine- been on antibiotics many times to fix this, and she does not digest her food, so she was on meds for that also.  My other pug, same adoption, not related is also 2 years old and is very active, however, he eats her feces.

She seems to be fine and more energetic when she's on the 'UTI' medicine, however, after a month of being off it, she goes back to her lethargic self and is pretty grumpy.

My other Pug, Guiness, is never lethargic, has never had any urinary problems, and eats the same food as her, so I'm wondering if you have any suggestions on how to help her.  She's been on meds ever since I adopted her and would like to make her healthy.  Please help!

Answer
Oh NO!!!  The Iams was a poor choice but Beneful is awful and she just can't digest this product because of all the Junk fillers.
YOUR other pug is lucky that the Beneful is not causing any problems..
Guiness is a lucky pug!

I know you thought you were feeding good foods but they are both very poor.  TOO much corns and grain = UTI and urinary crystals.

YES, I can help you -  Some changes need to be made for this little Chloe.
1.  New food - Must be grain free feeding :
Look for Innova EVO; Wellness Core; Merrick Before Grain Or try this one SoJo ( all are sold in many pet stores ....)

So Jo offers free shipping with this link ( MUST get the GREEN bag of the SoJO mix )
SEE here:
http://www.sojos.com/index.aspx?affiliate=petnurse

2.  Offer WET canned Food with any of the dry - Give  dry Grain free food and 1/4 to 1/2  can per day of the WET food - AGAIN the wet food must be grain free - SoJo is moist and wet or any of the other brands listed above have Canned , too.
Moisture - adding little bits of water to the food is one of the KEYS to kidney health.

3.  Please call and get this baby onto some NuVET Plus powder - mix this powder into the wet food 1 x per day ( JUST 1/2 to 1 teaspoon )
You can start with 1/2 teaspoon per day and after 10 days - increase to 1 teaspoon per day - LONG term...
