Question
Hi Pat,

I have a toyrat terrier that I am taking to the chiropractor for a check on her back.  She seemed to have hurt it a few weeks ago and has trouble walking. I took her to the regular vet and she gave her steroids to help her get moving. They seemed to help a little.  Do you have any other treatments that can help my terrier? The pain is making her act very strange. We cant pick her up or she will yelp.
thanks for reading this.

Answer
Hi George,
Oh Man, this can be bad, Dashunds have many back injuries, but for this tough breed is rare.  What on earth did she do to injure it so painfully so?
Put some moist heat on it, use maybe a heating pad with wet towel wrapped around it.  Also, use some Ben Gay, rub like we would use it.  Take your fingers and gentley message the back areas in a circular motion to rub out the pain or kinks.
Other than heat moist, I would not give any pain meds of humans and if she is or was on steroids that should of helped a good bit.  Unless something is outta place??   Of course she would act strange with the pain and the meds also.  Keep her confined somewhat from moving alot so it might heal quicker than moving toooo much. Do not pick her up now.
If she likes water, running warmer hot water also is good or better than nothing.  That is about all I can think of for now not knowing for sure what is wrong.

The best of luck and keep me posted as I care about pets injuries.

Kind Regards
Patt
