teaching the puppy

I cannot get my new puppy to go outside potty regardless what i do he refuses comes back in and pees and poops on floor>
I am ready to give up on his stupid behavior..Help

hi patricia, sorry for getting back to u so late but the puter was giving probs ... ok now lets see u say new puppy but not what breed or how old ... so lets presume its between 6 and 10 weeks old ... to teach a puppy to potty outside is easy to teach BUT it takes some time the best way i have found is to make sure that after every meal or water to take the puppy outside for a while and do praise the puppy when it does potty outside as for during the night u will have to set your watch 3-4 hourly and take the puppy out but as he gets older the bladder mucsles gets stronger and the time will be only once during the night and hopefully by then the puppy will have his own way to wake u up and let u know that he wants to go outside ... also when the puppy do forget a tap on the bum will act to remind him that what he is doing is wrong but that will only work if he is caught in the act ... let me know if this is of any help and do ask if u have anymore questions ... enjoy your day now !
