Question
Hi Beth,
My dog has been constantly licking the floor and i don;t know why!
do you know of any reasons?
Thanks,Hannah.

Answer
Hannah -

Dogs do a lot of things that don't make sense to us.

I have a gordon setter who licks the furniture constantly.  It was only after I realized that as a hunting breed she is very scent oriented and the furniture may smell like me.

Your dog is likely smelling something and licking it lets them smell it better (since the 2 senses are closely related - that's why nothing tastes right when your nose is all stuffed up).

Another possibility, depending on where you live, is if there is salt on the floor. We just had a bunch of snow and lots of places have been using salt to get rid of the ice.  That means I would be tracking salt into the house whether I knew it or not.

Overall, I wouldn't worry too much.
