ANSWER: Chaz is adorable !  You may want to get one of these tools to keep his coat under control. It works better than shaving him down once in a while.  It's easy to use - you just use it like a brush.

Cairns in general can be very protective, but its important to get him out in public and get him socialized so he doesn't end up mean. In this day and age, having a dog that even **might** bite someone is putting to dog's life in jeopardy, so it's extra important to make sure that never happens. Taking him to the park or better yet to obedience classes is always a good idea.

OH - and you just have to read this about the cairn personality

Answer
You should keep an eye on it and see if it gets any better or worse.  You don't an emergency vet visit, but if it doesn't seem to calm down you should get him in to be seen.

In the meantime, you can put some human cortisone cream on it. That should make him more comfortable and will stop any itching it might be giving him.

It does make me wonder about him having a food sensitivity again, though.

Poor baby.
