Question
Our yorkie is about 7 years old and was house broken at one time but for the past year has been going in the house.  Her typical spot in the house is close to her water and food dish - can you explain that?  Is there anything we can do?  We put her in a crate during the day but she goes first thing in the morning before we get up and without us realizing she has jumped off the bed.  Help please

Answer
Jennifer,
your dog is a toy breed and as such has a very small bladder to begin with so you should start by limiting water in the evening after 8 p.m.. As she gets older incontinence is not all that unusual. You may wish to use a weewee pad if you are not aware of her leaving the bed in the mornings - either that or you may have to consider crating her in the evening as well.
You can speak with your vet too. Sometimes there is a low grade infection going on. Now there is even a prescription drug that helps limit the leakage. Your vet will know about it.
good luck.
