Smooth Fox Terrier/Anal Glands

Question
Hi.  We have a 14 month old, male SFT.  He is about 24 lbs, and
is neutered.  We have not heard anything from the vet or anyone
else about "expressing" his anal glands.  We were wondering
how we are supposed to tell if this needs to be done, if it needs
to be done at all?  

As is, should this be done every so often?  What signs are there
that it needs to be done? And do some never need it?

They have anal glands that will secrete a scent. Your supposed to pinch the glands from the outside to squeeze the discharge out. I am not too sure how frequently this happens, but the best thing is that on y our next vet appointment, ask the vet to show you how it is done. Too many times people are pinching the wrong things, and the puppy can get hurt, or have internal damage. It isnt a hard process, nor a gruesome one, but have a professional show you hand over hand first.
