fox terrier, how to pick up

Question
I'd like to know if the following way of picking up our fox terrier is harmful to him: one hand pulls up from the upper collar; at the same time the other hand pulls him up by the tail. I don;t know where I heard it that this is OK, but I want to be sure I am not "hanging" him in effect by this method. Thanks.

That is a method often used to put small show terriers onto the judging table.

I'm not crazy about the collar part, but the tail is no big deal..Terriers are built to be pulled out of holes by their tails.  Collars, especially those that tighten will get tight on the neck...

I prefer a harness as it makes "snatching" very quick, easy and safe, and you can add in the tail if you need an extra handle.
