Question
QUESTION: I have a toy fox terrier ive had him since he was 8 weeks old. After a month or so he developed these rashes (pink) and he cant stop scratching. Because of this continuous behavior he started losing hair places and scabs. What can i do to sooth his itch or treat the rashes?

ANSWER: Leticia -

I'm so sorry... I must not have received the notice that you had written.

There are 2 things - First you ***must*** take him to a vet to make sure he does not have something serious going on.

In the meantime, please switch him to a food with no corn in it.

Secondly, here is a good treatment system that is simple:

Please make sure you find the underlying problem since it could be something serious.

QUESTION: beth-

i changed his food. about a week ago, now its potatoe and duck. hes still the same. whats worse is that today i gave him a bath and he broke out under his belly. he has hives. now im thinking it might be the shampoo. its supposed to be sensitive skin shampoo for puppies. is the treatment you sent me good even when its a reaction to shampoo or something he touched instead of ate?

ANSWER: Poor baby...

I would not give him any baths. Dogs don't sweat so it's recommended that they not be bathed more than a couple of times a year.

I would try the rest of that treatment - it will at least give him some relief from the itchies.

Has he seen a vet so you know it's not mange or some other terrible thing...

QUESTION: YES WE HAVE. I ASKED HIM LAST WEEK AND HES KIND OF WEIRD HE JUST SAID HE CAN GIVE HIM A TREATMENT. IM SO FRUSTRATED BECAUSE I WAS EXPECTING AT LEAST WHAT HE THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE OR TO ACTUALLY LOOK AT THE DOGS SKIN...OR SUGGEST TEST OR SOMETHING! BY THE WAY WHATS MANGE?

Answer
Sounds like it's time to search for a new vet !  There are enough good vets around that none of us have to put up with one who doesn;t bother to answer our questions (Just like our own doctors).

Mange is a parasite that causes severe itching and balding to happen. There are 2 kinds and it's not a good thing... Though he would have had to have picked it up from another dog.

It's more likely to be the food - and since you changed that, I bet he'll start getting better in another week or so....

I'm so sorry for your little fella... but of course I'm not a vet...
