Question
We have a poodle, yorkie mix, when company comes she gets so excited she pees at there feet. She doesn't squat & pee, she just dribbles a bit. What can we do do to keep her from doing this?

Answer
Duane -

That is called submissive peeing and is best addressed by doing things to build her confidence around strangers and company.

The best way is to take her through a series of obedience classes - It's much less about getting the "sits" and "stays" down pat than it is about learning to communicate with her and building her confidence.

If you simply can't or won't take her through those, then you need to take her out for walks where there are people as much as possible.  Another trick is for your guests to have tiny bits of very very high "value" treats - I use cheese - to give her when they arrive and greet her.  That makes meeting new people a good thing.

And since she's getting excited teaching her to sit quietly for treats is a very good idea.  Then when someone visits you can get her attention with the treat and have her sit for it (from you instead of the guest) and then she can greet them.  It might distract her long enough for her to calm down so she doesn't wee.

Good luck !
