Question
HiAutumn,I wrote you yesterday about my jack terrier.well this morning he Had a little blood in his stool, and I just can,t afford a vet right now.what should I DO, I DONT WANT TO SEE THE little guy pass away because he is very weak.what should i do.

Answer
Alright, well lets try to think back over the last week or so. Did he get into anything that he shouldnt have.. perhaps even something as silly as a magazine, stuffed animal or clothes....something that he doesnt normally get into? Try to think back on something that happened that was unusal but at the time not a big deal....

Do you have a cat?

Litter boxes release alot of dust, and many times, other animals in the house will get sick from this dust. it can cause runny and irritated eyes, and if he is eatting it can also be tearing him up inside which is why he may have bleeding stool.

It's hard to say why he is bleeding, and what connection that may have to his eye. In most cases, they arnt relavant to eachother at all, and the only thing that i can think of is the cat litter, or if he got into something that he wasnt supposed to. Be calm though, blood in his stool can be something as stupid as an upset stomach, so try to think really hard over something he may have ate...ect.

In the mean time, just get some saline solution from the store and wash his eye out with the solution. do it  once or twice a day. if the eye starts to become dry, cut back the washings. Also get some plain, non-flavored, un-sugared yogurt.  There are really good bacterias in the yogurt that serve as anti-bodies and will help your puppy fight off whatever infection may be inside him. just give him about a tablespoon or so a day. if he wont it eat, you can mix it with other food, or mix it with some water. whatever you think will work. and make sure he is drinking lots of water.  you can always call your vet.... phone calls are free, and they can do the best to help you over the phone. you can also go to your pet store and ask for help in finding over the counter medications. dont bring scrappy with you though..... leave him at the house. let me know how things go... take care
