Poodle likes to lick and jump on people

Question
Hi, I adopted a 1-yr-old girl toy poodle 3 months ago. She is absolutely adorable, but there are a few things that bother me for a while already.  She likes to jump on people, especially when I return home from work. She will be so excited and jump on me.  I tried ignoring her, not giving her eye contacts, and leaving the room again and coming back until I see her waiting me with a "sit".  But once I get back into the room, she will do the same thing.  I also tried commanding her to sit, she would sit for 2 seconds and jump on me again.  How should I train her not to do that?

Also, she is a very sweet dog and likes to lick people.  I didn't stop her from doing that in the beginning because my trainer said I shouldn't scold her because that's not a bad behavior unless she bites.  I guess I kind of reinforce her licking habits and now she licks people excessively, which is becoming to annoy people.  I tried to put lemon juice on my face/hand, she would stop licking immediately but will resume licking in the next hour. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Consistently is very important in correcting jumping and other problems. Quickly correcting him each and every time he jumps on somebody is very important. He must never get the affection he wants. A number of things have been used. One of the most gentle is to grab his front paws and hold him up. The traditional knee to the chest or step on his paws are fading from use. As part of the the trend away from negative methods, just step backwards leaving his front feet to fall to the floor. After a few tries, the dog may just stand there looking confused.

I tend to tolerate licking being glad I finally have biting under control.  If you really want to stop it, again, you must consistently correct it.  Pull you hand away every time and say yuck or something in a disgusted tone.
